CPAR-USA was founded in 2004 in order to raise awareness and financial support for the work of Canadian Physicians for Aid & Relief (CPAR) in Eastern and Southern Africa.

Originally founded to bring needed medical care to refugees of the 1984 Ethiopian famines, CPAR works directly with rural communities in Ethiopia, Malawi, Tanzania and Uganda and is supported by offices in Canada and, now, the United States.

CPAR's work includes primary health care, HIV & AIDS, natural resource management & food security, income generation and water & sanitation.

CPAR-USA is volunteer-driven organization run by a Board of Directors.
